Epic and initiative rollups

You will learn how to read epic and initiative progress, filters, child lists, and history.

Rollups help you answer whether larger work is moving, what remains, and which issues are driving the outcome.

Epic list

The Epics page is workspace-level. It can show epics across the workspace or only epics from one project.

The toolbar includes:

Project: choose All projects, the current project, or another project.
No epic: include a synthetic group for issues without an epic.
Hide completed: hide completed epics.
Sort epics: sort by the available epic sort options.

When custom sort is active in ascending order and you are viewing all projects, you can drag epics to reorder them. Reorder is not available in project-filtered mode.

Epic rows

Each epic row shows:

Issue key and title.
Project context.
Priority, status, labels, assignee, attachments, and updated context where available.
Rollup progress.

If the list is empty, create an issue with type Epic to start.

Epic progress

Epic progress is issue-based. The bar uses child issue counts, not points, so the visual progress matches the child count.

The bar segments are:

Green: completed or cancelled work.
Purple: in progress or waiting work.
Gray: not started work.

When child issues have estimates, the label can also show points remaining, such as 8 pts to go of 21.

Epic detail

Open an epic to see its rollup page.

The epic detail page includes:

Epic title, issue key, and description.
Full progress bar and legend.
Issues in scope child list.
Rollup filters.
Sort control.
Optional grouped sub-tasks.
History activity feed.

Child rows link to the issue detail page in the issue's project.

Issues in scope

Issues in scope is the child issue list for the rollup.

Use it to review what makes up the epic. The count shows visible issues, and when filters are active it can show the filtered count out of the total.

If Sub-tasks as children is enabled, sub-tasks can render nested under their parent issue. If a parent is filtered out, the matching sub-task can still appear so filtered views do not hide relevant work.

Rollup filters

Rollup pages support filters and sorting so you can focus the child list.

Common review filters include:

Project.
Status.
Priority.
Assignee.
Label.
Due date.
Estimate.
Hide done.
Group sub-tasks.

Filters affect the visible list. The overall progress bar still represents the whole rollup so you can compare the filtered view with the total.

History

Epic detail includes History for activity on the epic itself.

Use History to understand important changes such as status movement, field updates, and other activity on the underlying epic issue. Comments and deeper issue discussion live on the epic's issue detail page.

Initiative list

The Initiatives page shows workspace initiatives.

Each initiative card shows:

Name.
Optional description.
Epic count.
Rollup progress.

Use New initiative to create one.

Initiative detail

Open an initiative to manage its epics.

The initiative detail page includes:

Initiative name and optional description.
Full rollup progress.
Add epic selector.
Epics in initiative list.
Remove action beside each epic.

Initiative progress rolls up from the epics assigned to it.

Reading rollups in review

Use these questions when reviewing an epic or initiative:

Is the title still the right outcome?
Are all child issues still relevant?
Is most work not started, active, or done?
Is remaining estimate realistic?
Are blocked or overdue issues visible?
Does the History explain major changes?
Should the epic be removed from or added to an initiative?
