Issue views, dashboards and analytics

You will learn when to use each issue surface in Tixio: list, board, table, calendar, timeline, backlog, dashboards, and Insights.

Issues are the same records everywhere. Each surface answers a different question about the work.

For step-by-step instructions, read Use issue views and backlog and Use dashboards and insights.

Project navigation

Inside a project, the main navigation includes:

  • Issues for day-to-day issue lists and alternate issue views.
  • Cycles for sprint planning.
  • Versions for release tracking.
  • Backlog for unscheduled or not-yet-prioritized work.
  • Insights for analytics such as velocity and burndown.
  • Dashboards for custom widget pages.
  • Members for project access.
  • An overflow menu with Settings, CSV import, Statuses, and Automation.

This page covers Issues, Backlog, Insights, and Dashboards. For cycle-specific planning, read Cycles and sprint planning. For release grouping, read Epics, initiatives, milestones and versions. For saved views and search, read Search, saved views and My Work.

List

Use list view when you want a compact, readable queue of issues. It is good for triage, scanning titles, opening detail pages, and working through a filtered set one item at a time.

List view is the simplest place to start when a project is new.

Board

Use board view when status flow matters. The board groups issues into columns and lets you drag cards between statuses.

Board view is best for:

  • Daily standup.
  • Seeing where work is stuck.
  • Moving issues through a workflow.
  • Reviewing active sprint flow.

If your project has custom status transition rules, board drag-and-drop follows those rules.

On a project board, Group by can split each status column into assignee or epic swimlanes. The choice is personal to you and is remembered separately for the project or project-scoped saved view. Dragging a card between swimlanes changes its assignee or epic at the same time as any status change. Unassigned work and work without an epic remain visible in their own lanes.

Project admins can set an optional work-in-progress (WIP) limit for each status. Board headers show the filtered card count against that limit. An over-limit column is highlighted as a planning warning, but Tixio still allows cards to move into it. Counts follow the board's current filters and subtask display setting.

Table

Use table view when the fields matter as much as the titles. The table lets you show, hide, reorder, resize, and sort columns, with layout preferences saved for you.

Table view is best for:

  • Bulk triage.
  • Updating many due dates, estimates, assignees, labels, or versions.
  • Comparing created dates, creators, priorities, statuses, and planning fields.
  • Selecting multiple rows for bulk actions.

Calendar

Use calendar view when due dates are the question. Calendar view places issues on dates and helps you spot overloaded days, missed dates, and schedule gaps.

Calendar view is best for launch checklists, date-driven follow-ups, and planning work around deadlines.

Timeline

Use timeline view when sequencing matters. Timeline is the Gantt-style surface for understanding time spans, dependencies, and schedule shape.

Timeline is best for roadmap-like work, cross-team delivery plans, and projects where dates and ordering matter more than status columns.

Backlog

Use the backlog for work that has been captured but not yet committed to active planning. It is the place to hold new ideas, incoming requests, rough tasks, and future work until the team decides what to do.

A healthy backlog is not just a dumping ground. Triage it regularly so important work is clear, duplicate work is removed, and ready work is easy to pull into a cycle.

Dashboards

Dashboards are custom pages of widgets. You can create workspace-level dashboards or project-scoped dashboards. Project dashboards are pinned to the project and show project-relevant widgets.

Use dashboards when you want a standing status page for a team, project, launch, or stakeholder group.

Dashboards are best for:

  • Combining velocity, burndown, cycle time, workload, and triage widgets.
  • Sharing a high-level status view.
  • Monitoring a project without rebuilding filters.

Insights

Insights is the built-in analytics page for a project. It includes:

  • Velocity: completed vs committed story points per closed sprint.
  • Burnup: total sprint scope vs completed points.
  • Burndown: remaining sprint points vs ideal burn.
  • Cycle time: time from in progress to done for recently completed issues.
  • Workload: open issues by assignee.
  • Triage: signals such as unassigned or unsized work.

Use the cycle picker on Insights to review active or historical sprint data. When a selected cycle has started or closed, you can open the Sprint Report. For report interpretation, read Sprint reports and charts.
