Set up workspaces and projects

You will learn how to create a workspace, create the first project, configure project details, choose visibility, and archive or restore projects.

For the short first-run path, see Set up your workspace. This page adds the deeper setup and maintenance details.

Create a workspace

From the workspace picker, choose New workspace.

Enter:

  • Workspace name - the display name people recognize.
  • Short name - the URL-safe name used in workspace URLs.

The short name must use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens. Tixio suggests one from the workspace name, but you can edit it before creating the workspace.

Choose a stable short name. Workspace owners and admins can rename the workspace later, but the short name is set at creation and cannot be changed from the General settings page.

Rename a workspace

Open Settings > General.

Workspace owners and admins can edit Name and choose Save changes. The Short name is shown for reference and cannot be edited there.

If you do not have permission to manage the workspace, Tixio explains that only workspace owners and admins can change workspace settings.

Workspace owners and admins can also use Settings > AI assistant to set monthly AI token budgets and per-request completion limits. For assistant usage, read Chat with the AI assistant.

Switch workspaces

Use the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar to move between workspaces without changing accounts.

Use the workspace picker when you need to:

  • Review pending invitations.
  • Open the last workspace you used.
  • Disable or enable Open last workspace immediately (skip this screen).
  • Log out and switch accounts.

Create a project

From the workspace dashboard or sidebar, choose New project.

Enter:

  • Name - the project name.
  • Description - optional context for what belongs in the project.
  • Visibility - Private or Team.
  • Short name - the URL-safe project slug.
  • Issue prefix - the key used for issue numbers, such as PLAT.

Tixio derives the short name and issue prefix from the project name, but you can edit them before creating the project. Choose a short prefix that people can recognize in issue keys.

Choose project visibility

Choose Private when only explicitly added project members should see the work.

Choose Team when all workspace members should be able to access the project.

You can change visibility later from project Settings when you have project admin or workspace admin access.

Edit project details

Open the project, then open project Settings from the project navigation overflow menu.

Project admins and workspace admins can edit:

  • Name.
  • Description.
  • Visibility.

Project Key and Short name are shown for reference. They are set at creation and cannot be changed from project Settings.

Create a sensible first structure

Start with a small number of projects:

  • One broad project for the team that owns most work.
  • One private project only if some work genuinely needs restricted access.
  • More projects later when ownership, reporting, or workflow needs are clearly different.

Avoid creating a project for every feature, customer, or sprint. Use issues, labels, cycles, epics, milestones, versions, and saved views for most grouping.

Archive a project

Archive a project when it is no longer active but its history should be preserved.

Open project Settings. Workspace owners and admins see the Archive project section. Tixio asks you to type the project name before archiving.

After archive:

  • Issue data is preserved.
  • The project is hidden from normal navigation and search.
  • Workspace admins can browse it read-only.
  • Normal editing resumes only after the project is restored.

Do not archive a project to hide temporary clutter. Use statuses, views, labels, or visibility instead.

Restore an archived project

Workspace owners and admins can restore archived projects from Settings > Archived projects.

Open the archived project card and choose Restore. Restored projects return to the sidebar, search, and normal editing.

Archived project settings may also show Unarchive project when you open an archived project directly.

Setup checklist

Use this checklist before inviting the whole team:

  1. Workspace name is recognizable.
  2. Workspace short name is stable.
  3. First project has the right visibility.
  4. Project issue prefix is short and recognizable.
  5. Project description explains what belongs there.
  6. At least one admin can manage workspace and project access.
  7. A small pilot group can create issues and confirm the structure works.
