Use the Slack AI assistant
You will learn how to ask the Tixio assistant questions from Slack and keep the conversation in a bot-owned thread.
Use this workflow when you want assistant help without opening the Tixio app.
Before you begin, read AI assistant and chat.
1. Confirm Slack is connected
Slack assistant chat requires workspace and user setup.
A workspace admin must install Slack:
- Open Settings > Integrations > Slack.
- Choose Connect Slack.
- Complete Slack authorization.
Each user must link their own Slack identity:
- Open Settings > Integrations > Slack.
- Choose Connect my Slack account.
- Complete Slack authorization.
If Slack is not connected or your account is not linked, the assistant may not be able to identify your Tixio workspace and permissions.
2. Start in a direct message
Open a DM with the Tixio Slack app and ask a question.
Good DM prompts:
What issues are assigned to me this week?
Summarize my overdue work.
Find open customer-request bugs.
In a DM, the assistant treats the channel as one ongoing conversation for your linked Tixio user.
3. Start in a channel
Mention the bot in a channel to start a threaded conversation.
Example:
@Tixio summarize open launch blockers
Tixio replies in a thread so the channel stays tidy.
4. Continue a thread
After the bot owns a thread, you can reply in that thread without mentioning it again.
This works for follow-up questions such as:
Which of those are assigned to me?
Show that as a table.
What should we handle first?
Top-level channel messages without an app mention are ignored, so the bot does not join unrelated channel chatter.
5. Wait for the answer
The Slack assistant posts a temporary thinking message, then updates it with the final answer when possible.
If rich rendering fails, Tixio falls back to a plain Slack message.
6. Use Slack-friendly prompts
Slack answers are designed to be concise.
Good prompts:
Summarize the active sprint for Platform in five bullets.
Find bugs mentioning checkout and group them by status.
Give me a table of my due-soon issues.
The assistant can render Markdown tables as native Slack tables when they fit Slack limits. Larger or repeated tables fall back to aligned code blocks.
7. Understand write safeguards
Slack assistant chat can look things up and answer questions. When a prompt would change data, the assistant can propose the write and ask you to Approve or Cancel in Slack instead of applying it silently.
It will not apply destructive or write actions without that confirmation step.
If approval is unavailable or you prefer the full UI, open Tixio and make the change in the app. Use the in-app assistant when you want richer confirmation cards. For details, read Chat with the AI assistant.
8. Use the right Slack surface
Use DMs when:
- The question is personal.
- You are asking about My Work.
- You do not want to notify a channel.
Use channel mentions when:
- The answer is useful to the team.
- You want a shared status summary.
- You want follow-up questions in a visible thread.
Use the Tixio app when:
- You need to confirm a write action.
- You need to inspect issues visually.
- You are making access, SSO, export, audit, or admin decisions.
9. Troubleshoot Slack assistant chat
If the assistant does not answer:
- Confirm the Slack workspace is installed in Tixio.
- Confirm your Slack account is linked to your Tixio user.
- In a channel, make sure the first message mentions the bot.
- For follow-ups, reply in the thread where the bot already answered.
- Avoid edited messages or bot/system messages; Tixio ignores those.
- Ask an admin whether Slack and AI are configured for the deployment.
Related Slack features
The Slack integration can also support slash commands and message shortcuts, such as creating or finding issues from Slack, depending on your workspace setup. Those are separate from AI assistant chat.
