Tune notification settings

You will learn how to adjust notification channels, event types, digests, and mutes so updates reach you the way you want.

Use this workflow when notifications are too noisy, too quiet, or arriving on the wrong channel.

Before you begin, read Notifications.

1. Open notification settings

Open workspace Settings and choose Notifications.

The page controls your notification preferences in the current workspace. Other workspace members have their own settings.

2. Review event types

The Event types table lists every notification kind.

For each event type, choose:

  • In-app on or off.
  • Email: Off, Instant, or Digest.
  • Slack: Off, Instant, or Digest.

Use Notification event types when you need to confirm what each row means.

3. Choose in-app signal

Keep In-app on for notifications you want in the bell and Inbox.

Good in-app events for most users:

  • Mentions.
  • Assignments.
  • Comments on watched or assigned issues.
  • Status changes on watched or assigned issues.
  • Due soon.
  • CI failures for watched or assigned development work.

Turn in-app off for event types that should only reach you by email or Slack, or that you do not need at all.

Mentions always remain eligible for in-app notification because they represent a direct attention request.

4. Choose email mode

Use Instant for events where delay creates risk:

  • Mentions.
  • Invitations.
  • Urgent assignment workflows.
  • CI failures for work you own.

Use Digest for events that are useful but not urgent:

  • Comments on watched issues.
  • Status changes.
  • Pull request updates.
  • Commits and branches.
  • Automation alerts.

Use Off when the event is already handled through Inbox, Slack, or another team process.

5. Choose Slack mode

Slack direct messages require both workspace-level Slack installation and your personal Slack link.

If Slack is unavailable, the settings page explains the missing step:

  • Workspace admins can connect Slack from the Slack integration settings.
  • Individual users can connect their Slack account after the workspace install exists.

Use Instant Slack for events that need quick response. Use Digest Slack for a scheduled summary. Use Off when Slack would duplicate email or Inbox without adding urgency.

6. Set digest timing

Use Email and Slack digest schedule to control digest timing.

Choose:

  • Cadence: Daily or Weekly.
  • Hour: the browser-local hour when digests should be sent. The label shows the timezone currently used by your browser, such as Hour (AEDT).
  • Day for weekly digests.

Digest timing applies to any event type where email or Slack is set to Digest.

The app converts your selected local time to the UTC schedule used by the delivery system.

7. Save changes

Select Save changes after editing the event matrix or digest schedule.

If you leave without saving, your draft settings are not applied.

8. Mute a project

Use project mutes when a project is generally noisy but not relevant to your current role.

  1. Go to Muted projects & issues.
  2. Choose a project from Mute a project.
  3. Select Mute project.

Muted projects do not generate notifications for you in this workspace, except for direct mentions.

9. Mute a single issue

Use issue mutes when one issue is noisy but the rest of the project is still useful.

  1. Go to Mute a single issue.
  2. Search by title or key.
  3. Select the issue from the results.
  4. Select Mute for that issue.

Issue mutes suppress notifications for that issue, except direct mentions.

10. Remove a mute

In Muted projects & issues, select the remove action next to a mute.

Remove a mute when:

  • You return to a project.
  • You need to follow a previously muted issue.
  • You want to test whether your channel settings are now quiet enough.

11. Troubleshoot missing notifications

If you expected a notification but did not receive one, check:

  1. Whether the event type is enabled for the desired channel.
  2. Whether the project or issue is muted.
  3. Whether you were the actor who made the change; Tixio skips self-notify rows.
  4. Whether you are watching or assigned to the issue.
  5. Whether Slack is installed and your Slack account is linked.
  6. Whether the event is set to Digest and the digest has not run yet.

12. Troubleshoot too many notifications

If the inbox is noisy:

  1. Stop watching issues you no longer need.
  2. Mute one noisy issue before muting an entire project.
  3. Move non-urgent event types from Instant to Digest.
  4. Turn off channels that duplicate another team process.
  5. Keep mentions on because they are the clearest request for attention.
